Evaluation (by Mark Harris)

Question 1

In this first screenshot the camera is at an angle showing the shadow of our antagonist making the views feel intimidated and vulnerable also the fact you can’t see much light in this clip either

screenshot 1

In this screenshot we had a zooming in shot of a photo of our victim so that our audience can get a feel as to who the story is about and we finished this clip of with a close up of the photo

screenshot 2.jpg

In this screenshot we are focusing on the lighting as we can’t see a lot of what’s in the picture of what is happening and that’s could fill the audience with mystery and questions and scare some of them as they could be intimidated, all you can see if the outline of the stalker with the use of our lighting.

Here for one of our opening conventions we introduce 1 of our main characters showing the focus as she is the only person in this clip.

Question 2

question 2#1

I took the photo from our film to represent the teenage social group and who its aimed at saying that as a teenager we are all vulnerable to this crazed stalkers

question 2#2

This is a photo of Drew barrymore who played casey in Scream she was the first victim of the stalker called ghost face and she was about 19 years old, the socail group of the film is based around a bunch of high schoolers so they are around the same social group

question 2#3

This photo is of a girl who was found dead after posting that she had a stalker on Facebook she was around the same age as our actor Nicole and was in the same situation this just proves that these films also reflect on real life and make people aware of what can happen.

Question 4

The audience for our film would probably be teenagers and young adults as the main character is in her late teens so teenagers would be able to think in her position and feel how she is feeling In that situation, the film magazine that I think would EMPIRE as they like the different and sometimes creepy films, I think it be appropriate because they would give it an honest review and give it a good amount of advertisement space for what it is, it would be attract a large audience to our film and would support it as well, I feel that it would be better than other magazines because of this reason also as we are trying to attract a younger audience they would feel that they won’t a younger audience reading there magazine and then maybe they would become a subscriber so in that case we would both win, I wouldn’t be expecting a front page but I think even 1 page in the empire would be good to have

Following is a film about a girl who is stalked and eventually kidnapped by an unnamed stalker who eventually tries to sell her for a sum of money, acted by Mark Harris and Nicole Atkinson, it was very well acted and the filming and lighting were very well done, the first scene introducing us to both the main characters was very creepy and atmospheric all you saw was a dark room with lots of pictures and writing on the bored and acasionly you would see the shadow of the stalker and it filled you with question and mystery, I was really impressed with the lighting in that scene as it was incredible we could just see enough to know what was happening and what was about to happen, throughout the film they keep this atmosphere on us the whole time and we never get torn away from that, I was interested all the time as it always changes and there isn’t one scene that is the same as another one I would say if you’re interested in seeing this film make sure you’re ready for a surprise and a jump at the end and a massive plot twist I will tell you now be prepared for an awesome ride.

Question 5

Question 6

Here I am using the camera that I am already very familiar with however during the project I managed to use my previous camera skills to make our shots even better.

IMG_1024

Here I am using the torch to bounce on a reflector to light up an area I haven’t use much lighting in the past so doing this I learnt that a small torch can make a massive difference as shown in our first scene.

IMG_1025

Here I’m using the reflector I have previously used a reflector before however this time I used it more and we used it in our first scene to light up the board.

IMG_1026

During our process we had to use a lot of editing and different software.

One was called final cute express in the past I have used a lot of different editing software so the basic stuff I could do however doing the more advanced stuff was a bit harder but I eventually researched how to do each thing and got the hang of it all.

Another program we used was garage band iv used this on my friends Ipad a lot however on the mac itself it’s a lot different so I knew the basics but using the proper program was a bit different and there were a lot more instruments you could use however I finally got the hang of it and made our soundtrack.

IMG_1029

Another program that we used briefly but didn’t use in our final piece because we were running out of time was after effects which is a program that you can add titles and indents and do special effects with them I only learnt the basics about this program.

Evaluation of Rough Cut

We had to make a rough cut of our final piece, so for this we had to upload all our clips onto the macs this was the easy part of our task the harder part was choosing the clips we wanted on the rough cut, we had to think about what would look best where and also think about including sound and text to get feedback for when we make out final piece, even if it was just a quick demonstration we were told it be best to add some so I created an account on freesounds.org and downloaded some soundtracks that I thought would be appropriate for a rough cut as well as work on some of our own music in garage band but if that didn’t work out we always had the soundtracks we downloaded.

For our first scene we used the darkest room we could get hold off to film when then dimly lit it with a torch and reflector and tried to get a lot of clips showing that this person was definitely our stalker, this introduced our audience immediately to our stalker and start them asking question about who this guy is and what does he want, we used short clips to show the room that he was in and finished that scene with a long shot showing the entire room.

To move from one scene to the other the stalker walked in front of the camera and walked off revealing a change of scenery to an ally way where we first meet our victim Nicole as she is just going around doing her daily routine, we enjoyed seeing how this transition turned out and thought it worked really well.

We used a lot of editing techniques in our rough cut like the split effect this seemed like a good idea at first but I didn’t like it in the end product as it confuses the audience too much and is too much to look at, another effect we wanted to put in was the CCTV effect however we just ran out of time and I was not there on Friday and I was the one who knew how to do the effect so we unable to put it in but we are definitely going to add it in to our final piece.

Overall I really thought the rough cut was a success we met our deadline and criteria just I think we need to move some clips around and play around with some effect definitely finish our soundtrack and add or remove some clips, as well as make the transitions between some scenes more smooth maybe some fade ins and outs.

Location Photos

we choose different locations during our shoot to film different parts of our film but we started of in an empty media studies classroom in our college.

Image

Image

we then moved our shoot into Cambridge where we used different locations e.g ally ways and top story car park at the grand arcade

Image

for our last scene we used my sisters house to films as we needed access to someone front door who lives in CambridgeImage

and with all these different locations as well as some along mill road we were able to film our thriller opening

Lesson by lesson Plan.

Thursday 14th March: Begin editing again, re-arrange sequence and include our new footage to improve ending.

Friday 15th March: Sound. We need to make unique sound. And if we have time start to create an ident.

Tuesday 19th March: Finish creating the ident and make the effects including the CCTV effect.

Thursday 21st March: Make sure everything is running smoothly and editing is complete. Make tiny touch-ups to it. Upload our final cut.

Feedback from our Rough Cut.

1) Camerawork: The camera work was static in most of the scenes. Small shot variety which together with the static camera makes the scene seem prolonged and boring.

2) Mise en Scene: Haven’t used many props. Hood is good. Doesn’t look like they’ve used much lighting. Good variety of scenes. Clothes show age.

3) Editing: Two frames in one, two different shots at once. Disorientates the audience slightly. Really good transition from the ‘wall’ scene, worked really well as the character walks.

4) Sound: Quiet. Liked the beeping when crossing the road. -1.19. Could be used to create tension something similar to at the beginning.

5) Titles + Ident: Suitable font. Well fitted name, involve credits in opening sequence.

Response to feedback: After looking at our feedback we need to shoot our last scene again to make it more effective and less boring, including more variety of shots, shaking the camera for example. The two frames in one can claim us more marks in terms of editing but perhaps we need to change the two clips used to link them better and prevent audience confusion. Our sound needs a lot of improvement, maybe using garageband to create our own soundtrack.

Costumer research

Our antagonist will be a dark shady character, who will be wearing dark coloured clothes and a hood to cover his face; he will be wearing some big black boots and a hoodie as well as some jeans to make him look like a regular member of the general public though he will still stick out from the rest.

Our protagonist played by Nicole will be wearing normal clothes to make her look like a normal member of the general public; a pair of jeans, pair of converse and a jumper/coat, though she will look like a regular member of the general public we will use the camera to make sure that people know that she is the main character and what people are suppose to be focusing on.

From research I found out that most stalkers dress normally as if they are a normal member of the general public however its how they act, behave and how the camera shows them to the audience is how they are shown as the antagonist.

During research I realised that the victim is normally the prettiest one or the most noticeable person in the room at the time and you will instantly be able to tell who the victim is straight away by the amount of attention shown on the character.
